Seniors,
Unfortunately, the trip to Schlitterbahn Resort in South Padre mentioned in a previous post did not gain the backing we'd hoped for. The senior officers convened last week to brainstorm ideas for a day trip on May 1st. We are leaning towards Dallas but are also considering San Antonio (not quite as grand as we once planned, but still a day we'll remember nonetheless!) In the meantime, if you have any ideas for senior activities (Senior Breakfast?) or the Class of 2015 CTR Parade float, let us know or post to our Facebook page (see the banner above for a link). Stay tuned for CLASS OF 2015 shirts coming soon! Seniors, Last week you voted on class song, motto, flower and color. These choices were selected by your senior officers and the senior sponsor (with admin approval). Here were the choices and WINNERS:
Hello Class of 2015! It's been a while since our last post. Here's an update on our senior trip: What's happening with the Orlando, Florida trip? Late last semester, we learned we could not move forward with our senior trip proposal to Orlando, Florida (an e-mail was sent to all parents on the e-mail list). We stopped all fundraising to regroup and revisit trip options. Will there be a senior trip? We hope so! We are still working with a travel company suggested by a senior parent (Summit Tour and Travel) and have decided for the #2 destination, South Padre Island.
With chaperone packages included, we suspect the total cost per person will be $350 - $450 depending on how many students sign up. With the money left over from last year's prom fundraising, we hope to pay for transportation costs and divide up what's left over among participating students to further reduce the price. What happened with the money from last semester? We have a spreadsheet of students who helped with last semester's fundraisers as well as the amount they've fundraised individually. If you are interested in knowing how much money will go towards your trip costs, please contact Ms. Barragan at [email protected]. Can I still fundraise? We currently have no fundraisers planned at this time since we are still waiting on trip approval. We will make an announcement and begin planning at least one more fundraiser once we have a definitive answer. What will happen if this trip doesn't happen? In the event that our trip proposal is denied once again, it is likely we lose the energy and time to plan yet another one. The money in our school account will likely be reinvested in other class activities, prizes or scholarships. A note from Ms. Barragán
Seniors, there's still time to do this, but we're approaching deadlines fast. I haven't given up yet, but without your questions and support, I don't really know whether a trip is something seniors still want. PLEASE share this information with your parents and friends, request status updates and let's get the momentum going! We are ready to begin our next big fundraiser in our Fall campaign with Thirty-One Gifts! What is Thirty-One?Thirty-One Gifts is a direct-sales company that offers totes, purses, accessories and more to help you organize your life in style. They also take pride in celebrating, encouraging and rewarding others for who they are, empowering women and strengthening families around the world. We will be working with Jill Wenzel, our local Thirty-one consultant, to sell as many Medium Utility Totes (the November special) as we can. If we sell 100 bags, we can make over $1500 in profit! Interested seniors should come by Ms. Barragán's room to pick up their packets on Monday, November 10th. The fundraiser packet includes:
Note: Thirty-one Fall Catalog 2014 is not included in the packet, but students are encouraged to let customers know that they may shop online at the LHS Class of 2015 Thirty-one Event Page so that 25% of all proceeds go back to our organization! The top senior seller receives a $100 cash bonus towards senior trip expenses (a minimum of 5 totes must be sold)! If you have any questions about this sale, you can contact Ms. Barragán at (512) 398-0436 or Jill Wenzel at (512) 917-0410.
The following post was originally sent as an e-mail to parents on the Senior Parent E-mail list. If you would like to receive e-mails regarding both our fundraising efforts and trip updates, please visit the Fundraisers & Events page to sign up today! Dear Senior Parents, We are in the final stages of collecting all money from last month's chocolate fundraiser. It is my pleasure to announce that with about 120 cases sold our Senior Class netted well over $3500 in a very successful chocolate campaign. Go seniors! We hope to have another chocolate fundraiser again in the Spring. We will be announcing the TOP SELLER for last month's fundraiser in school next week, so stay tuned for more information.
Once the transportation (round-trip airfare), free chaperone packages (airfare is not provided in the tour company's free packages, so we'll likely distribute the costs among travelers to compensate), local transportation in Orlando and any other surcharges or miscellaneous fees are factored in and divided among travelers, we estimate the total cost per person will likely fall between $1000 - $1200. With fundraising, it is our goal to lower that amount a couple of hundred dollars, bringing us to our original range of $800 - $1000. We are still in the process of determining how exactly funds will be allocated (whether all fundraising will contribute to the total cost in order to lower costs for ALL students who decide to travel, or whether it's possible to ensure that those putting in the work are receiving their cut of the money being fundraised individually). We have been waiting patiently for updates from our administration and hope to have news soon.
In the meantime, please encourage your student to participate in our fundraising events. Every bit helps, and we hope to make sure those who are putting in the work are equally compensated. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to e-mail at any time. Best regards, Crystal Barragan Many thanks to all who made it out to Fentress this Saturday! Thanks to you, Leisure Camp Resort has awarded the LHS Class of 2015 an awesome donation for all of your hard work in helping put this event together. Let's keep up the great work!
A little late in posting, but after only one day of handing out World's Finest Chocolate boxes, I am excited to say that we've completely run out! If we sell all chocolate, this means we'll profit $2200 from our chocolate fundraiser. Great job seniors! Our next event takes place this Saturday, October 25th:
Hey Seniors, You have likely already heard by now, but results for our trip meeting ARE IN! 55 seniors attended this meeting, and with an overwhelming majority of votes, Universal Studios Grad Bash in Florida is the winning Class of 2015 trip destination! There is a process we have to follow in order for the trip to be approved by the school board, but we are working hard to draft a proposal. Our next order of business is FUNDRAISING, so stay tuned to our Fundraiser & Events page for upcoming information on what YOU can do to help! Hey Seniors, A couple of weeks ago, we voted during homeroom between choosing an in-state or out-of-state 2015 class trip destination. The results are in: 80% of seniors voted for an out-of-state destination! Luckily, we've been working on a package to Universal Studios Grad Bash in Florida since this summer, but we need to hold an official destination vote to move our request forward.
We will be providing a bit of information as well as voting on a destination during this meeting, so any interested seniors should plan to attend! |
